Logos

The team gets a lot of requests to create logos. A logo is a graphic or symbol used to instantly identify a team, project, etc.

Suggested Process

  1. Understand the brief. What is the project? Who is the audience? Are there existing brand elements to align with? Gather this context before sketching.

  2. Explore a wide range of directions through mindmaps and sketches — wordmarks, lettermarks, symbols, combinations. Pen and paper is the fastest way to get through a lot of ideas.

  3. Share 2–3 distinct directions with the requester. Explain the thinking behind each one. Be open to feedback and advice from the team or requester.

  4. Once a direction is chosen, refine the typography, proportions, spacing, and color. Test the logo at small sizes and in single-color.

  5. Once the logo is finalized, provide the final logo in SVG format along with PNGs of each variation. For more on why we prefer SVG and open source formats, see Tools We Use.

Typical Final Deliverables

  • Full-color logo (SVG)

  • Single-color / monochrome version (SVG)

  • Horizontal and stacked/vertical lockups if applicable (SVG)

  • PNG exports of all variations at standard sizes (e.g., 512px or 1024px)
