Events
The Events section of the Fedora Diversity, Equity, & Inclusion (DEI) Team Docs aims to build a Fedora Diversity events calendar and identify regional events for participation. Our focus is on supporting minority-specific events to promote a more inclusive environment across the Fedora Community, we target minority-specific events.
Our mission is to embed inclusivity into all Fedora events and to expand Fedora’s reach into historically marginalized regions through meaningful and well-supported participation.
Making Fedora events inclusive
Inclusivity should be a part of all Fedora events and activities. Here are some best practices to consider when planning an event with your community:
-
Design sessions that are hybrid or remote-friendly
-
Include speakers, panelist and/or contributors from diverse backgrounds
-
Share the Code of Conduct clearly before the event
-
Provide translation or interpretation, if possible
-
Choose accessible venues and platforms
Hosting events in marginalized regions
We want to support Fedora events in regions where open source is still growing - such as parts of Africa, Asia, South America, and more. This requires thoughtful planning.
Here’s how to support that:
-
Partner with local schools or tech communities
-
Offer support for travel, internet access, or event costs (e.g., swag for contributors)
-
Use local languages and culturally aware communication
-
Connect local organizers with Fedora mentors
